What is the Strawberry Moon?
The strawberry moon is projected to rise over the Atlantic Ocean beginning 7:41 p.m., with its fullest expected around 1:12 a.m. on Tuesday. At 7:33 a.m., the strawberry moon will already set.
Its name does not actually reflect the real color of the moon. The tag was actually given by the native Americans to call the fulll moon in June since it was the time to harvest strawberries. Other people also called the full moon in June as the Flower Moon or the Rose Moon.
Nicknames for Full Moon
The tribes in the U.S. gave nicknames to the moon for them to easily tell the seasons of the year. Some individuals also tagged the full moon in June as honeymoon because it is the wedding month. For the majority of the people in the U.S., the strawberry moon is simply an ordinary full moon which happens every month.
However, the moon can actually appear pinkish or reddish based on the Earth's atmospheric conditions. There is also the possibility that the moon will have a brown-red color especially when it is a total lunar eclipse.
What is Summer Solstice?
On the other hand, summer solstice is considered to be the longest day of the year equivalent to 17 hours of daylight. It usually occurs in June. For this year, the summer solstice falls on June 20 when the sun rose at 4:45 a.m. and will set at around 10:34 p.m.
Many people look forward to the summer solstice because it means that summer has already arrived. There are those who celebrate the occurrence saying that it means abundance in harvest, renewal and even fertility.
How is it Celebrated?
One of the most famous ways of celebrating the summer solstice is the gathering of people at the Stonehenge in Wiltshire, United Kingdom. It was added in the Independet report that people wait for the time when the sun only reaches the middle of the stones. This happens only once a year.
