Facebook to Add Shopping Feature in e-Commerce Push

Facebook is about to add a shopping feature for in-app purchases as part of its major e-commerce move.

The social media giant has begun testing its in-app shopping feature that allows viewers to see all items for sale and check out their purchases in one feed. Facebook is taking advantage of the time that people spend on the app using their mobile devices to make more money, according to Tech Times.

Facebook's new move makes shopping easier for consumers since it skips the process of loading a separate webpage to check out an item. Incorporating an in-app retail section will definitely make for a more convenient shopping experience for Facebook users. Using the Shop section, Facebook users can now easily search for, buy, and share products. But the shopping feed will be tailored-fit to the interests of the online shoppers, Retail Dive (RD) reports.

"Across each of these formats — from proven ad products such as carousel and dynamic products ads to new tests," RD quotes Facebook in a statement. "Our goal is to make it easier for people to discover relevant products on mobile while also driving results for businesses."

Consumers are not the only ones who will benefit from the Shop section. It will also help retailers bring their products a step closer to consumers, the report explains.

As of now, the feature is being tested with a handful of U.S.-based businesses that are also conducting a pilot test of the section on their own Pages.

The addition of the Shop section is just part of the series of steps that Facebook is taking toward e-commerce. Facebook is already testing the use of in-app Buy buttons from its Pages. The combination of the two new features is expected to effectively hook users into spending more time on Facebook for shopping, reading content, or even just catching up with other people.
