Fall Foliage Map 2017 USA: Where Is It Best to Watch Autumn Leaves Around This Time?

The fall season is here, and it is the time of the year again when people can watch beautiful autumn leaves. As the United States goes deeper into fall, people can see the dramatic change of colors in the leaves in almost all of America.

One of the most-awaited natural phenomena during fall is when the tree leaves change their appearance and sport an autumn leaf color. From the typical green shade, they become pale yellow to striking, vibrant hues of orange or scarlet.

This is due to the breaking down of Chlorophyll -- the green pigment in leaves. Added to this is some other chemical changes that happen along with the seasons, thus affecting a leaf's color.

The change of color in the tree leaves across the United States does not happen all at once. Some kinds of trees tend to show the transformation earlier than others. In the same manner, not all states in America see these changes at the same time.

Luckily, several weather and map services online provide guides to the autumn leaves' change of colors based on location and time.

According to the SmokyMountains.com, around this time of the season, all of America will find minimal to past peak changes of color in autumn leaves.

Meanwhile, Weather.com is more particular in marking states where people can expect to see autumn leaves. On this website, they used four signifiers in the change of color, from Patchy (bright yellow), Near Peak (light orange), Peak (deep orange), and Past Peak (somewhat scarlet hue).

As of Oct. 14, Weather.com forecasted that people can expect to find patchy autumn leaves in most locations within the states of Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, and Massachusetts.

For people hoping to witness autumn leaves at their peak, they can go ahead and plan trips to northern parts of Maine, some areas of Vermont, New York, as well as Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio.

On the other hand, Weather.com suggested that past peak autumn leaves are now visible in the states of Utah and Colorado.
