'Fantastic Four' Reboot Will Feature Changes in Mr. Fantastic's Powers
Along with Marvel Entertainment and 20th Century Fox's remake of the Marvel Comics superhero classic, "Fantastic Four," Reed Richards' Mr. Fantastic will also get a reboot of his powers when the film opens on August 7, 2015.
Reed Richards, played this time around by "Divergent" actor Miles Teller, can now warp the space around his mass, appearing to make his body lengthen.
The film reveals his stretching body isn't due to the change in his internal chemistry causing cell malleability, but focuses instead on his ability to manipulate the space surrounding him.
The film will be keeping Richards and his companions' travel through the Negative Zone which causes changes in all of them, but tweaks the scientific explanation for his new physiological powers.
Fans of the series, and of Mr. Fantastic, in particular, have protested these liberties taken on Reed Richards' powers, instead of the comic version's character being basically a taffy-like man, even if the original version implies he has to exert effort to maintain his shape while at rest, and is weaker in areas where his body is stretched to its maximum.
In the film, particular emphasis has given to Reed Richards' bio, describing him as "a scientific prodigy who has been quietly exploring the universe's deepest mysteries in his garage after school."
Each of the four superheroes in the film have been provided with their own biographies complete with a voice over from Dr. Franklin Storm, played by Reg E. Cathey, who details their disparate personalities and powers, and how he intends to work with them.
The film will be focusing more on sci-fi elements and character dramatizations, hence the casting of actors with a track record in drama-oriented movies: Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Michael B. Jordan.
