'Fast and Furious 8' Director Teases Fresh Direction for Sequel
"Fast and Furious 8" will still feature the same characters, but the story itself will give the audience a fresh feel, director F. Gary Gray teased.
In an interview with Collider, F. Gary Gray revealed that Vin Diesel, who both stars in and produces the franchise, was delighted when he presented his concept for "Fast and Furious 8." The director also hinted that the upcoming film will feature more action set pieces and character narrative to satisfy the fans.
While Gray did not exactly reveal the plot of "Fast and Furious 8," he hinted that the movie will take a new direction to keep it fresh. He will capitalize on the ending of "Fast and Furious 7" to steer the reboot into a great new story.
"I'm probably not at liberty to go too far into detail… we're really pushing to make sure the audience feels like it's not more of the same," Gray told Collider. "They feel like it's fresh, they feel like the characters they've come to know and love are there, but this is gonna be different, and that's probably the most I can give you right now."
It can be remembered that the sudden death of main star Paul Walker affected the original story of the previous film. Because of the unfortunate incident, his character Brian O'Conner will no longer be part of the eighth sequel, Youth Health Mag notes.
As for the location of the upcoming sequel, rumor has it that Cuba is being considered as a potential setting. However, Gray chose to stay mum on the locations of the movie, and only mentioned that they have scouted several places around the world in search for the perfect setting.
"Fast and Furious 8," which was written by Gary Scott Thompson, is rumored to be in pre-production as of the moment. Although there is still no confirmed release date for the movie, there are reports saying it will premiere on April 14, 2017.
