'Fast and Furious' News: Movie Franchise to End With 2-Part Film?
Is the "Fast and Furious" movie franchise about to end?
Despite lacking superhero movies in its lineup, Universal Pictures continues to do very well, particularly with the "Fast and Furious" movie franchise. Its latest film, "Furious 7" has suffered a lot of setbacks with the death of one of its main stars, Paul Walker, and the film reportedly had to deal with other issues such as an inflating budget and other "unprecedented challenges."
However, the film is finally done—the trailer was unveiled in a triumphant and emotional event on Nov. 1, and the movie is set to premiere in April 2015. While fans of the franchise are all set for more adventures with Dom, Letty, and the rest of the "Fast and Furious" family, many are wondering whether the current circumstances have changed the future of the upcoming installments. Though it has been reported that "Tokyo Drift" star Lucas Black has signed on to appear in the eighth and ninth "Fast and Furious" films, not much have been said about the upcoming films.
Deadline reports that Universal is getting back Justin Lin, the director who helmed the first four "Fast and Furious" films, to work on a "multi-part production" that will serve as the finale to the series. The eighth and ninth films is said to be the end of a trilogy that starts with "Furious 7."
Lin was originally tasked to direct "Furious 7," but the director announced his intention to depart the franchise because Universal wanted to fast-track the production schedule and release the film one year later. The baton was then passed to James Wan to helm "Furious 7."
As of now, there has been no confirmation from Lin or from Universal Pictures regarding the report.
