'Fear of the Walking Dead' News: Survivors Encounter Water Zombies; Alicia Befriends Jack, but Who Is He?
No longer on terra firma, the survivors may be feeling hopeful but unsure as they travel the high seas to San Diego, hoping to find there a refuge free of the walking dead. The group later finds out that they are facing a new threat: water zombies. And there's a much bigger one on the horizon, even more than the undead---the other survivors.
As the yacht speeds onward to their destination, Liza (Elizabeth Rodriguez) gets shot by Travis (Cliff Curtis), her ex-husband, before she transformed into a zombie. She is thrown into the waters. Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie), her son, gets cut up about it and earns the sympathies of Nick (Frank Dillane), who is also experiencing some inner turmoil of his own.
As Chris grieves, he suddenly jumps into the water, followed closely by a worried Nick who imagines the worst. However, Chris had only wanted to take a swim. In a short time, the swimmers discover debris floating from a shipwreck as well as water zombies who proceed to attack them. Water zombies may sound cool, but they're not as much fun when one is being attacked by them, as Chris and Nick soon find out. With help, they soon have the situation under control---for the time being.
On board The Abigail, the blended family poses as a source of envy when other survivors realize the advantages in having the yacht, with its supply of fuel and other resources. In Sunday's premiere of "The Fear of the Walking Dead," the mysterious yacht owner, Victor Strand (Colman Domingo), attempts to institute some modicum of order by laying down his rules.
Strand says, "Let me explain the rules of the boat. Rule number one, it's my boat. Rule number two, it is my boat. If there remains any confusion about rules one and two, I offer rule number three: It's my goddamn boat."
And so it became very easy to tell who set the rules on The Abigail.
Alicia, in the meantime, is surfing the radio waves hoping to turn up something to ease her loneliness. She encounters a certain Jack who tries to get friendly with her while pumping her for information as to her location, and the extent of supplies The Abigail is equipped with. Alicia was hesitant at first, but once Jack got enough information, he proceeds to tell her he'd see her soon.
None too soon, the survivors on the yacht come upon a capsized boat showing signs that it had been attacked not by the undead but by the living. As Strand suggests the incident may have some connection to Jack's group, the yacht's radar shows The Abigail was being pursued.
"Fear of the Walking Dead" will have 15 episodes in all; the first half, seven episodes, will end with a cliffhanger teased by showrunner Dave Erickson. The second half will have the other eight episodes.
The show airs on AMC Sundays 9 p.m.
