'Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462' News, Update: AMC Announces New 16-Part Web Companion Series
A spinoff getting its own spinoff. AMC intends to make the expanse of its small screen zombie universe even wider as it announced the "Fear of the Walking Dead" companion web series, "Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462."
According to reports, "Flight 462" will begin streaming online following the season finale of the Kim Dickens and Cliff Curtis-starred show on October 4.
The reportedly 16 minute-long webisodes is said to follow a group of passengers on a commercial airplane (with the aforementioned flight number) at the earliest moments of the outbreak. Panic breaks out inside the cabin when an infected flyer threatens everyone on board. As revealed by the network, only one character in the miniseries will survive the ordeal and he/she will later catch up with the "Fear" characters in its second season.
"Flight 462 is a great extension of the world of 'Fear' and will engage fans across multiple platforms with another riveting story set at the start of the fall of civilization," AMC's Joel Stillerman said in a statement (via DigitalSpy).
As revealed by the network executive, the web special was made possible with the collaboration of creators Dave Erickson and David Wiener. The former, meanwhile, served as the executive producer of "Fear" while the latter was credited for directing the latest "Fear the Walking Dead" episode titled "Cobalt."
Penning the story are L. Signorino and Mike Zunic while "Fear" cinematographer Michael McDonough serves as the director.
The aforementioned "Fear" finale is titled "The Good Man" and spoiler reports hinted that as the civil unrest grows and the walkers taking over the place, Travis (Curtis) and Madison (Dickens) devise a plan to protect their families.
The following week, the parent show, "The Walking Dead" will open its most-awaited Season 6 with the primer titled "First Time Again" on October 11 at 9 p.m., all on AMC.
