'Fear the Walking Dead' News, Update: Cast Member Elizabeth Rodriguez Talks About Her Character in A Recent Interview
It's only a matter of days when the highly anticipated companion series of AMC's hugely popular post-apocalyptic drama TV series "The Walking Dead," "Fear the Walking Dead," premieres to the small screen and fans may still be on the lookout for more information on what to expect from the upcoming show.
"Orange is the New Black" star Elizabeth Rodriguez, who plays the character Liza, offered more details during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
The actress revealed that Liza is Travis' (Cliff Curtis) ex-wife. Despite being inseparable when they were young, they realize that they both "wanted different things" in life which prompted them to separate.
Fans will find Liz going to a nursing school, opposite to what she really dreamed of - becoming a doctor. Circumstances forced her to choose the lesser option as her priorities are now her son.
Still a nursing student, she will be heavily involved in the city's collective efforts to manage the damages caused by the outbreak. This opportunity gave her the chance to "see things on a grander scale" but in exchange of losing her family.
Rodriguez divulged that Fear isn't just about zombies.
"It could be any sort of seemingly apocalyptic event, whether it be war, terrorism, a tsunami, a coup," she told the publication (via EW). The actress went on to explain that "it's about what happens" that "causes people to come together, and human instinct to protect our closest, nearest, and dearest."
The situation will also prompt the people to "make choices and try to understand really quickly and accept what the new reality is."
Perhaps, she told the media outlet, the bigger fear felt by her character and the rest in the story, is the lingering question of "what are they?"
Clueless and being left in the dark, Rodriguez went on to explain that this dire situation will force the characters to follow their primal instincts: self-preservation.
"Along the way pieces of us die in who you think you were just two days ago. You don't even have time to assess what happened before. And I think very little sleep, not a lot of baths, probably hungry, no time to even think about all those things — it's survival mode," she said (via EW).
"Fear the Walking Dead," which debuts this Sunday, August 23, is also slated to feature the acts of Kim Dickens as Madison Clark, Frank Dillane as Nick, and Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, just to name a few.
