Fergie, Grammy 2012 Orange Mesh Gown Shocks Fans

American singer and songwriter Fergie, appeared on the Grammy red carpet Sunday night in a brightly colored orange dress alongside her unexpected date.

Stacy Ann Ferguson, better known as Fergie, is a solo artist and member of the Black Eyed Peas. She appeared Sunday night at the Grammy Awards wearing a bright orange, mesh gown which revealed black lingerie beneath.

Although the singer referred to her dress as a safe choice, some were in a bit of disagreement over the choice of gown. E News referred to the garment under the gown as "granny panties" but Fergie appeared confident in her outfit selection. She stated that she got the gown straight from Paris off of Jean Paul Gaultier's couture line.

Fans however, still seem unconvinced. "A beautiful woman dressed in a pumpkin-colored lace beach cover up over an old fashioned bikini," tiredofpc wrote on the Huffington Post blog. "Whoever told her that she looked wonderful needs to be hooked up to a lie detector before giving future fashion advice."

"That is the ugliest dress I have seen for a long time," rosy7635 added.

"Orangey bronzed skin with an orange dress. Not good. I just don't get it, it's such a bad outfit in general (the accessories and the showing underwear) and I can't even see the shoes," supertuffy opined. "This is the worst red carpet dress I've seen since that time Bjork wore that swan dress (and at least that was creatively strange)."

Fortunately Fergie wasn't completely alone in her taste. Some fans offered some more flattering remarks. "Magnificent workmanship......it reads couture," wrote FormerlyTCnSRQ.

Fergie may also win points from some, since she decided to bring her mother to the red carpets as her date.
