'Fifty Shades of Grey' Sequel News, Cast, Spoilers: Franchise Back-to-Back Movies

The first film of "Fifty Shades of Grey" was a definite blockbuster success, and although everyone knew that the franchise is going to get a second and third film, it became a question as to when that would actually happen. After being on hold for a while, it's now confirmed that the sequel to the $570 million grossing film is finally going to start filming in 2016, and more good news is that it will apparently be filming back-to-back with the third one as well.

Now, Universal wants to get the franschise off and going as much as they can. Perhaps like most studios, Universal is aware that from movie franchises like this, waiting too long can definitely impact the success of further installments down the line.

According to Daily Mail UK, stars of the movie adaptation of the erotic novel series, Dakota Johnoson and Jamie Dornan, will be reprising their roles when production picks up. Earlier this year, rumors strated to circulate that delays were being caused by Dornan's wife's objections to reunite with the co-star. This was followed by the widespread rumor that Dornan was having real romantic feelings for Johnson. However, Dornan has spoken up about this and simply said that it was due to his schedule that he hasn't been able to take on the role once more.

Furthermore, the departure of the first movie's director Sam Taylor-Johnson definitely caused the shooting of the new film to be pushed back as well. Now, James Foley will be taking over the director's seat, and perhaps one of the challenges he has to face would be to keep the element that has made the first movie a hit despite the strong criticisms against it.

E.L. James is the author of the bestselling "Fifty Shades of Grey" novel series. Although she is only overseeing the film production, her husband Niall Leonard will be involved directly as he is responsible for writing the screenplays for the second and third installments. Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti will be returning alongside James to produce the films.

The two movies already have the set premiere dates with "Fifty Shades Darker" scheduled for release on February 10, 2017, while "Fifty Shades Freed" can be expected a year after, on Februay 9, 2018.
