'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' Rumors: How Will the New Game's Boss Fights Differ From the Original?

'Final Fantasy 7 Remake's' battles will be more 'action-based,' says director Tetsuya Nomura

Of the many ways that the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" has been confirmed to differ from the original thus far, perhaps no one change has garnered as much attention as the revamped battle system.

Fans who have followed the progress of this remake likely know already that the familiar turn-based system is being done away with in lieu of integrating a new, faster-paced style of combat.

Director Tetsuya Nomura even reconfirmed this gameplay change recently during an interview with Famitsu.

According to the translation of the interview provided by Gematsu, Nomura reiterated that "battles are not command-based" and that the remake will feature "action-based" encounters.

Notably, that's not the only interesting tidbit Nomura shared during the interview.

Talking briefly about the Guard Scorpion boss battle that will be included in the remake, Nomura revealed that this "battle has map destruction and a great number of attacks that weren't in the original."

That statement from Nomura is interesting for a couple of reasons.

First off, the statement seems to suggest that destructible environments will now be featured in the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake." This change could greatly impact how battles, and specifically boss battles, may unfold in the new game.

That's not all, however, as the second part of Nomura's statement is also noteworthy as it seemingly hints that certain enemies in the remake will feature new attacks.

If the remake's bosses will feature updated attacks, then that change will challenge players in new ways. Also, with an action-oriented combat system set to be installed, developers may update these boss fights in ways that will work better and make more sense when combined with the new mechanics.

There are still some details about the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake's" new combat system and bosses that need to be fleshed out further, and hopefully for fans, those other bits of information will be shared sooner rather than later.
