'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' Rumors: What Other New Features May Be Added to Game's Battle System?

Elements such as cover actions, environmental destruction will factor into the 'Final Fantasy 7 Remake's' battles

There are quite a few things already known about the battle system that will be featured in the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake," and these will serve to greatly differentiate it from the one included in the original.

As players may have heard of already, the turn-based system featured in the original is being replaced with a faster-paced action-oriented system. However, the changes go beyond that.

Speaking earlier this year to Famitsu, director Tetsuya Nomura talked about what other elements will be added to the revamped battle system.

A translation of the interview was provided by Gematsu, and in it, combat elements such as cover actions, destroying body parts of bosses and even environmental destruction were discussed briefly by Nomura.

Those aforementioned elements are certainly indicative of how introducing the action-based battle system will change things. But beyond those, are there still other additions that may be introduced later on?

If the developers of the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" decide to retain most or even all of the abilities that players can use in the original and then update and make them available in the remake, then they may also change the way that special commands work.

In the original game, there were different examples of Command Materia that gave players access to special actions such as Steal, Mime, Manipulate and even Deathblow among several others.

Since the turn-based actions are being done away with, developers may need to figure out other ways to allow players to execute these special commands.

It is also unclear at this point exactly how Summons will be integrated into battles. Given that developers are aiming to provide players with a faster-paced gameplay experience, it does not seem ideal to stall the action just so a particular Summon can be called upon, so that may be tweaked as well.

More news about the other ways in which the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake's" battle system may differ from the original should be made available soon.
