'Final Fantasy IX' Release Date News: Game Arrives For PS4 With Limited-Time Discount

This week, Sony and Square Enix added "Final Fantasy IX" to the games available for PlayStation 4. It is currently being offered with a limited-time discount.

The re-release of "Final Fantasy IX" for the PS4 was confirmed during a press briefing at this week's Tokyo Game Show. The game was made available on Japan's PS Store immediately after the announcement. Then, after about an hour, PS players from North America, Europe, and other regions were also allowed to start purchasing the game.

"Final Fantasy IX" is currently priced at $16.79. However, the pricing will reflect its regular cost of $20.99 on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 11 p.m. In Europe, the game will be priced 16.99 pounds or 20.99 euros, but it is currently available at discounted prices of 13.59 pounds or 16.79 euros  for PS Plus members until Sept. 26.

Information on "Final Fantasy IX's" PS4 re-release was made public moments before Sony and Square Enix's confirmation.

People spotted a rating on the Pan European Game Information website for "Final Fantasy IX" that listed the game for the PS4 system. PEGI's rating also indicated that the "Final Fantasy IX" PS4 release was set to go live on Sept. 19.

Square Enix stated in a release: "FINAL FANTASY IX for the PlayStation 4 gives players the chance to relive a classic tale of love, magic and self-discovery with various enhancements including high-definition movies and character models, trophy support, auto-save functionality and optional game boosters including high-speed mode and no encounter mode."

"Those who purchase the digital edition will also receive an original custom theme designed by Toshiyuki Itahana and eight key character avatars," Square Enix added.

Players will follow the adventures of a wide array of characters from the kingdom called Gaia, namely Zidane, Princess Garnet, the black mage Vivi, loyal knight Adelbert Steiner, Freya Crescent, and many more.

"Final Fantasy IX" was first released in 2000 for the original PS console.
