'Final Fantasy XIII' Lightning Models for Louis Vuitton
Lightning, a video game character who appears in "Final Fantasy XIII," is taking a break from sword wielding and such. She has been spotted to exchange her weapon for Louis Vuitton's high-end pieces.
Square Enix and Louis Vuitton have come together in a somewhat unexpected pairing between fashion house and video game studio. The French fashion house has tapped the Japanese video game developer's Lightning from its "Final Fantasy" series to model the label's Spring-Summer 2016 collection.
Louis Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquière posted a video and then a couple of images on his Instagram account. These media show the "Final Fantasy" heroine in full high-fashion garb as part of Louis Vuitton's ad campaign titled "Series 4."
"Reality and fantasy become one : lightning a genuine heroine in the new @louisvuitton series 4 ad campaign," Ghesquière wrote in his post, sharing a video of Lightning (watch below).
In the ad (video above), Lightning wears a pale pink motorcycle jacket, a jumpsuit, a pair of black sandals, complete with Louis Vuitton bags. The video was created by Visual Works and features a new arrangement of "Blinded by Light" by Yoshitaka Suzuki, according to Square Portal.
The appearance of Lightning, however, should not surprise those following the luxury fashion label, given that Louis Vuitton's Spring-Summer 2016 collection was inspired by sci-fi, manga, anime, and video games. Ghesquière's newest collection included "all things digital and fantasy," from wardrobe to accessories to makeup, according to Quartz.
Under Ghesquière's influence, the fashion house has been spotted to have taken inspiration from "Star Wars" in its window displays, and its holiday message features a robot, too.
Lightning's "gig" for the fashion house is not her first foray into fashion. Back in 2012, she appeared in Prada's collection, along with other "Final Fantasy" characters. This time, it was to show off Prada's collection of male clothing in Japan.
Lightning, whose real name is Claire Farron, appears in "Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII" and other titles of the "Final Fantasy XIII" series, as well as in the spin-off "Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy."
