'Finding Dory' Movie News: Dory's Solo Film Inspired by Her 'Finding Nemo' Line

There is no denying that "Finding Dory" has fans of "Finding Nemo" excited. While it's true that "Finding Nemo" endeared the young clown fish to the public, there is no questioning that it was Dory's funny antics that brought the house down when it hit the theaters some years back. And now that the spinoff to "Finding Nemo" is just months away, fans can't help looking forward to seeing the forgetful and naturally funny blue tang fish entertain them once more.

"Finding Dory," for obvious reasons, follows the adventures of Dory this time and not that of Nemo. However, fans of Nemo and his father, Marlin, should not worry about not seeing them in the movie as the two clownfish will play important roles in Dory's movie, according to "Finding Dory" director Andrew Stanton.

"I took some weird routes with them… because they had to be separated. Because the whole thing is about how to learn, in a weird way. How to learn from being a supporting character to a main character and how to go from passenger to driver for [Dory]. They had to be separated so that she could be on her own and have to kind of start over," Stanton explained.

Stanton further explained that the line prompted to him to keep exploring the possibility, and the story is a product of gradual discovery that only he had thought of.

"It's not like I walk around with some author thing, like 'This is my vision,"" Stanton smiles. "It's more just like, I'm the only guy that smells there's something here and I just keep digging… If all this stuff was preconceived, I don't think anyone would want to do it," he said.

Apart from the participation of Nemo and Marlin, "Finding Dory" will also feature new characters in the movie, including Hailey, a seven-tentacle octopus; Bailey, a beluga whale whose echolocation doesn't work, and Destiny, a whale shark that cannot see clearly, and many other entertaining animated sea creatures.

"Finding Dory" hits the theaters on June 17.
