'Finding Dory' release date, spoilers: Full details revealed during Disney's D23 Expo
After years of waiting, fans finally got a look into the sequel of "Finding Nemo" titled "Finding Dory."
During Disney's D23 Expo last Friday, Disney gave the attendees a sneak peek into the upcoming film. It revealed that the story will pick up months after the events of Finding Nemo. It will follow Dory's adventure to escape an ocean sanctuary facility where injured animals were treated before being sent back into the wild.
Details of the clip previewed during D23 were reported by Screen Rant. It described a scene where Dory was revived after fainting. She then remembered that she needed to go to California. While clips were not leaked online, teasers from Finding Dory were posted, showing Dory in a fish tank talking to an octopus.
The film will be directed by Andrew Stanton. It was previously reported that he had no intention of continuing the story of Dory. However, he changed his mind and explained, "I wanted to know that if this charming forgetful fish ever got lost again, that she would be okay, that she would find her way home. And at the end of Finding Nemo, I wasn't confident about that. So that's when I knew I had another story."
Finding Dory will feature Ellen DeGeneres, who will reprise her role as Dory. She will be joined by other characters of Finding Nemo such as Nemo (Hayden Rolence), Marlin (Albert Brooks), Gill (William DaFoe), and Deb (Vicki Lewis). New characters will be introduced such as Frank the octopus, voiced by "Modern Family" star Ed O'Neill, Bailey the beluga whale (Ty Burrell), Destiny the whale shark (Kaitlin Olson), and Dory's mother named Jenny (Diane Keaton).
Disney also revealed several other plans such as the plot of "Toy Story 4," which is reported to be a love story. It also shared that selected Disneyland theme parks will feature a Star Wars-themed section, anticipating its upcoming film.
The upcoming Disney film Finding Dory is expected to hit theaters on Jun. 17, 2016.
