'Finding Noah:' A Journey of Faith Toward Discovering the Ark That Saved Mankind
In what could be one of his biggest endeavors and aspirations in life, Kevin DeVries shares in a documentary how he indulged in a journey, armed with strong faith, toward discovering Noah's Ark.
DeVries has gone through different ventures such as kayaking all of the Great Lakes and climbing five of the Seven Summits. This time, his journey meant leaving everything behind to indulge in an expedition that could either prove or disprove one's faith.
The 47-year-old joined Ark Search LLC way back 2009. He became the lead mountaineer in a team that aimed to find evidence that the Ark of Noah is indeed lying on top of Mt. Ararat. The team's journey, which ran from 2009 to 2013, is detailed in the documentary "Finding Noah: An Adventure of Faith."
For many years, many expeditions have tried to locate the boat that the Bible says saved mankind and other creatures. Although the attempts have aimed to particularly discover the exact location where Noah's Ark rested, only a few actually looked into Mt. Ararat, which is located in eastern Turkey, and is the site that the Bible has specifically mentioned.
The anomaly recently discovered on Mt. Ararat gave interest to DeVries and his team to continue the plight toward unveiling the Ark's location. Director and producer Brent Baum tells the Christian Broadcasting Network how the team took the perilous risks to give the world an account of the "biggest archaeological find" in history.
Baum says he heard about the story of Noah's Ark as a child in Sunday School and when talks of the expedition came up, he says he "just couldn't say "no" to the idea of documenting one of the adventures that could dispute some theories about mankind.
The producer also notes that while the Kurds and the Turkish people are in a constant state of war, his crew still braved the possibility of hostilities that could come their way to get a clear message of true faith across people around the globe.
"Finding Noah" is in theaters all across the United States on Thursday, Oct. 8 for one night.
