'First Man' Neil Armstrong Biopic Cast 'OITNB' Villain Pablo Schreiber With Ryan Gosling and Damien Chazelle

Actor Ryan Gosling and Oscar-winner director Damien Chazelle are teaming up again on the big screen for "First Man." The Neil Armstrong biopic recently added "Orange is the New Black" villain Pablo Schreiber in the cast.

Schreiber will play Armstrong's co-astronaut Jim Lovell. He's one of only 24 humans who have walked the surface of the moon. Lovell also commandeered the Apollo 13, which inspired the 1995 Tom Hanks and Ron Howard movie.

Chazelle and Gosling, who will play the first man to step on the moon, have been circling around this Armstrong biopic since 2015 when the two worked together on "La La Land." The movie is based on the biography "First Man: A Life of Neil A. Armstrong," which James Hansen published in 2005.

Also in the cast of "First Man" are Claire Foy ("The Crown") as Armstrong's wife Janet Shearon, Jon Bernthal ("The Punisher") as astronaut Dave Scott, Corey Stoll ("House of Cards") as astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Kyle Chandler ("Bloodline") as astronaut Deke Slayton. Josh Singer wrote the script to the screenplay.

Clint Eastwood was supposed to direct "First Man" under Warner Bros but the studio passed the project to Universal, which tapped the Oscar-winning director Chazelle as the helmer. The movie will chart Armstrong's life from 1961-1969.

"First Man" will be in theaters on Oct. 12, 2018. The cast and crew are set to begin production soon.

Meanwhile, Schreiber is also filming "Skyscraper" with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and he will be back for "American Gods" season 2 on Starz. Gosling, on the other hand, is busy making the press rounds to promote "Blade Runner 2049" with Harrison Ford. The film opens in theaters on Friday, Oct. 6.

Chazelle is also working on "The Eddy," which is his first small screen project. The musical drama series will arrive on Netflix in 2018. Chazelle is executive producer and director of two of its eight episodes.
