In this film, three youngsters will continue the battle of the older generation. Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron will battle it out with four villains - Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, and Supreme Lord Snoke, played by Andy Serkis, will be the main ones with the dark side of the Force. Lower in the villain hierarchy are Captain Phasma, played by Gwendoline Christie, and General Hux, played by Domhnall Gleeson.

Two new characters have been introduced, the first, a female, is Bazine, while the second character is the Crimson Corsair.

There is some significance attached to Luke Skywalker's old lightsaber. We see in the new footage that Finn has it. Even though inexperienced and starting out as a Stormtrooper, Luke's blue lighsaber might help him tide over the evil darkness of the red lightsaber.

Most part of the movie plot hinges on the battle between the two factions. On one side is the militaristic 'First Order,' an oppressive and tyrannical government. On the other side is a group of freedom fighters known as the Resistance. It had been revealed that Empire and the Rebel Alliance had been renamed as First Order and Resistance. This sounds very earthly while the previous had a grand spacey feel to it.

The events in the film might follow what happens after the Battle of Endor claims casualties on both sides and leads to the destabilization of the Empire and the chaos associated with it. Both sides regroup and start again with new names.
