First Photo of Johnny Depp in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' Released
Audiences got their first look at Johnny Depp in the upcoming Walt Disney film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales."
An image released by producer Jerry Bruckheimer shows the first official photo of Johnny Depp in the fifth installment of the swashbuckling film franchise, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales."
Bruckheimer teased the photo on his Twitter account Tuesday, showing Depp's character, Jack Sparrow lashed tightly to a mast between two pirates. The director captioned image: "Captain Jack is back, and we're not letting him go."
The new film follows the Sparrow as he flees from an old adversary, Captain Salazar, played by "James Bond: Skyfall" villain Javier Bardem and his ghost pirate crew, who have recently escaped from the Bermuda Triangle. Sparrow meanwhile, is pursuit of a mythical relic called the Trident of Poseidon which endows the power to exert control over the sea.
Filming for the movie had earlier been suspended for two weeks after Depp incurred a hand injury in the middle of shooting and had to be hospitalized for surgery. There are reportedly an estimated three months left in the filming schedule to complete before the movie goes into post-production.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" will see the return of Geoffrey Rush as Hector Barbossa, Kevin McNally as Sparrow's loyal first mate, Joshamee Gibbs, Stephen Graham as Scrum, and Martin Klebba as Marty. Newcomers to the series will also be introduced, including Bardem, "The Maze Runner" actress Kaya Scodelario, "The Giver's" Brenton Thwaites and "Exodus: Gods and Kings" actress Golshifteh Farahani.
The film will be helmed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning, and is expected to premiere in theaters on July 7, 2017.
