Five Things to Know Before Playing 'Dark Souls III'
The "Dark Souls" series is notoriously known for being one of the most difficult role-playing games around so it is but natural for anyone who wants to try their hand with the latest installment, "Dark Souls III," to look around for information about the game. There are several reports that provide tips and tricks about the game that might be useful for anyone new to the game series.
One report in The Verge mentioned five things that players should watch out for, without spoiling anything about the game. The report describes the game as one where the player is "an interloper in a strange world where pretty much everything wants to kill you." The first tip cited is for players to "watch their corners." Before entering any room, one must look in every direction constantly to check if any assassins are hidden somewhere, ready to strike when one least expects it.
The second tip has to do with one's choice of weapon, but beyond the choice of weapons, one must take note where they use a particular weapon. One example given in the report is using a Greatsword which is known for horizontal slash attacks in a wide corridor rather than a narrow hallway, or using an arrow in a narrow corridor so that one's enemies do not have much room to dodge it.
Players also have to be wary about traps which can come in the guise of shiny objects that look like treasure or rewards. The fourth tip has to do with the game's main currency, souls. According to the report, when one dies, all the souls thus far collected will be lost. A player can regain these by fighting one's way back to the bloodstain where they died, but the report warned that players must be careful doing this as they may easily lose their souls again.
The last tip says that players must be careful in trusting anyone, no matter how friendly, they may be out for murder as well. The report also mentioned that the most unexpected and friendly creatures in the game are the ones who are not exactly the most pleasant-looking.
