Florida Firefighters Help in Working on a Man's Yard After Saving His Life
After saving a man who was having a heart attack, the firefighters of the Pasco County Fire Rescue also helped him finish laying down grass sod in his garden.
In a Facebook post shared by Melissa Work of Pasco County, Fla., she revealed that her husband Gene Work was rushing to finish laying down the sod in his front yard Saturday so that he will not be fined by the homeowner's association.
However, in the middle of working on their front yard with a relative, he experienced a massive heart attack.
However, Gene continued to worry about the work on his garden while going in and out of consciousness and kept begging his wife to take care of the sod and have it in place because he did not want it to die and go to waste.
The firefighters arrived in the scene and took him and his wife to the hospital while the member of the family stayed to work in the last four palettes of grass sod. While he finished placing the old grass and begin installing new rows of sod, he suddenly heard the arrival of a firetruck and ambulance nearby.
According to Melissa, seven firefighters came out and offered their help to the relative. She said that they came back to work in the garden because they knew that Gene was in a serious medical condition and they wanted to be sure that the sod will not die.
Melissa also mentioned in her post that the firefighters did more than save her husband's life during the heart attack.
"They didn't know our HOA was going to fine us. They didn't know that this guy's wife (Me) is about to fight for my own life during my bone marrow transplant next month," she stated. "They didn't know that my husband pawned his favorite gun to pay for the sod that he thought was going to die. They didn't know all we have been through as a little family. They simply saw someone in need, something in need and did this for us. This wasn't in their job description," she added.
The Pasco County Fire Rescue also shared the encounter in their own Facebook post, saying that their team vows to help the community in any way that they can, and that is what the crew from Station 10 did during that time.
They also hope that Gene will recover fast from his heart attack.
