Florida Man Threatens to Snort Ashes of Ex's Dead Sister
A Florida man was in police custody on grand theft charges after allegedly stealing a dead woman's ashes and threatening the women's mother with snorting them.
Joseph W. Pointer, 51, was arrested by police last Thursday on suspicion of taking the ashes of Melissa Williamson, who died in 2008, according to WTVJ.
The police report details a relationship between two individuals, which helped to explain why a man might steal the remains of a deceased person.
Pointer had lived with Williamson's sister, Angela Speakman, for a short period of time and had recently moved out of their house in April, according to an arrest report.
That is when Speakman believed that Pointer had the opportunity and the desire to inflict more harm after the end of their relationship by taking the remnants of her late sister.
Speakman's sister died in a vehicle crash back in 2008. She and her parents have been splitting the ownership duties since that time, according to WTVJ.
Apparently Pointer was not content with just possessing the ashes of his ex-girlfriend's sister, he also wished to antagonize her parents as well.
The police report also details that the day before Pointer would end up in police custody, he allegedly drove past the home of Williamson's mother several times in Lakeland, Fla. shouting.
"I've got your dead daughter's ashes and I'm going to snort them!" he had screamed, according to reports.
After Speakman's mother contacted the police and reported the incident, Pointer was arrested and taken to Polk County Jail while he is being held on $1,000 bond, WTVJ reported.
It was not presently known if Pointer had retained legal counsel.
This was not the first time that Pointer has had a run-in with local law enforcement. Jail records reveal Pointer was arrested twice for battery, in 2007 and again in 2008.
