Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao Fight 2015: May 2 Date Proposed, Filipino Boxer Responds

The much awaited Pacquaio-Mayweather fight appears to become closer to being a reality as Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently said that he is ready to fight Manny Pacquiao next May.

In an interview on the Showtime network for a fight card he was promoting in San Antonio, Mayweather called for the fight to happen and gave an exact date for the match— May 2. Though many sports analysts have claimed that the delay was caused by Mayweather's refusal to fight the Pacman, Mayweather said that it was not him but Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, who has been the cause of the fight's delay all these years.

"Floyd Mayweather is not ducking or dodging any opponent," Mayweather said. "Bob Arum is stopping the fight. We have been trying to make this fight happen for many years behind the scene."

Mayweather also said that Pacquiao should not expect to get the same amount of money that he himself would make.

"You lost twice and now you're coming back begging for the same money?" Mayweather asked. "That's not gonna happen."

Meanwhile, Pacquiao has responded to Mayweather's challenge. In an interview with Skysports, the Filipino boxer said, "[Mayweather] has reached a dead end. He has nowhere to run but to fight me."

"I will try my best to make this a thrilling and entertaining fight. But I doubt if he's gonna engage me in a slugfest," the Filipino boxer continued. "You all know his fighting style. Most of his previous fights, if not at all, induced us to sleep."

As for his fighting strategy, Pacquiao said, "I know what I have to do. I will chase him wherever he goes just in case he decides to run around the ring. I will devise a good fight plan against him."

With regards to the prize money, which is expected to be the biggest take in boxing history, Pacquiao said that it was not an issue for him.

"Mayweather can get the amount he wants. As early as January this year, I challenged him to a charity fight. Until now, he has not agreed to it. So, money is not the issue in our fight," he explained. "This fight is about legacy, this is about making the fans happy, and, above all, this is for the good of boxing."
