Floyd Mayweather News: 'Money May' rips Ring Magazine for featuring Ronda Rousey on cover

Retired undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather criticized Ring Magazine for featuring MMA superstar Ronda Rousey on its cover.

This most recent accolade solidifies Rousey's status as a combat sports global superstar. Earlier this year, Sports Illustrated already branded her as the "most dominant athlete alive".

Rousey garnered recognition from the manner of which she has finished her last few opponents. Holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 12-0 (12 victories by stoppage), her last three fights lasted a total of 1:04 combined.

"Rowdy" gathered a big enough following that the UFC decided to put her on the main event of their first ever card in Melbourne. But last weekend at UFC 193, Rousey failed to defend her title for the eighth consecutive time against former world boxing champion Holly Holm.

The event was held at the Etihad Stadium with 53,000 people in attendance.

While many have praised Rousey for her recent accomplishment, many are not pleased with it either. The most notable reaction came from Mayweather Jr., who aired his sentiments in a recent interview with Fight Hype.

"Well, you know, congratulations, but you know the sport is starting to look bad when a female fighter from a whole other sport is on the cover of a boxing book," Mayweather said.

In a recent episode of ESPN First Take, analysts Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless did agree that Mayweather was not taking shots at Rousey. Rather, he was criticizing the magazine itself, a publication that has been run by Oscar De La Hoya for the last decade.

"You gotta realize this, we all know Oscar De La Hoya owns the Ring Magazine. That shows you; he has no fighters but Canelo," Mayweather continued. "Basically, it's like he's trying to steal her from Dana White. Richard Shaefer, he built Golden Boy from the ground up, helped them make tons and tons of money, and what did this guy do?"

"This is real talk, how can Canelo or any fighter hold their head up high and say, 'You know what? I'm proud for Oscar, a guy that dressed in drag and been on coke.' I mean, the world knows this," he added. "How can you hold your head up high and say, 'You know what? I'm proud for this person to be my promoter."
