Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor News 2017: Dana White Thinks Fight Will Happen

For the past few of weeks, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White has been busy telling fight fans that the chances of a potential bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor were quite slim. He even said that the odds of it happening was the same as the odds of him becoming Tom Brady's backup quarterback for Super Bowl LI. But he has suddenly changed his tone.

During an appearance on the Wednesday episode of "Conan," White told host Conan O'Brien that he thinks the fight could really happen.

"I do think it's going to happen. I think it's going to be a tough deal, because, obviously, there are a lot of egos involved in this deal and a lot of people, so that always makes it tougher. On the flip side, there's so much money involved, I just don't see how it doesn't happen," he said during the interview.

White confirmed that the fight would happen in a boxing ring and he believes McGregor has a chance to score a win against Mayweather in spite of his lack of experience in boxing.

"Conor McGregor is huge. He's in the prime of his career. Floyd is 40. Floyd has always had problems with southpaws; Conor is a southpaw, and Conor hits hard," White told O'Brien during the interview.

Well, Mayweather has never been a heavy hitter, so he probably won't be knocking McGregor out. But his defensive skills and ring savvy are second to none. McGregor will have a hard time hitting Mayweather with a clean punch, but his punching power should make the fight interesting.

Mayweather recently announced that he has officially come out of retirement to fight McGregor, so all they have to do is to come up with a deal. White is right, though. Negotiating a bout like this isn't going to be easy. But it's good to hear him saying that it will happen.
