Ford Recalls Thousands of Windstar Minivans and 5-150 Trucks

When Ford recalled more than 600,000 of its minivans in 2011, it was due to corrosion issues raised by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration. This time, the carmaker has started to recall its Windstar minivans due to an issue on the rear axle.

Multiple outlets reported that Ford will be replacing the rear axles of each minivan that is affected with the problem. The issue stemmed from the incorrect installation of the bracket, and vehicles that turn out to have the issue will have the rear axle replaced at a discounted price, which some consumers have frowned on.

In its statement about the recall, Ford said "There is a risk that the combined effects of corrosion and stress can lead to cracks in the axle that — if undetected — can grow and result in a complete fracture."

The statement further explained that the issue could lead to more complicated accidents, and even a crash, if the owners don't submit to the said recall.

According to CBC News, the recall will be affecting about 58,850 Canadian vehicles. While the company has clarified that there have been a "small number of accidents" related to the minivans, no injuries were incurred.

Meanwhile, the 2015 Ford F-150 trucks have also been recalled after some clients complained about the pickup automatically braking. According to the company, the issue could have stemmed from an adaptive cruise control problem.

Aside from the Windstar recalls, Ford has also issued five other recalls on its vehicles including the 2001-2008 Ford Escape and 2001-2008 Mercury Mariner. The vehicles were recalled due to reported issues about probable loosening of shift control lever bolts in the transmissions.

The 2015 Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS sedans, and several 2016 Ford Explorers are also due for checkup as it was reported that the models might have fuel tank paraphernalia that were not attached properly.

The 2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ 2016 vehicles are also on the list as Ford believed some of the fuel tanks could possibly crack in a collision.
