'Fortnite' Invite-Only iOS App Becomes No. 1 Free App on Apple Store; Email Sign-Ups Now Open
"Fortnite" and its "Battle Royale" mode is now available for the iOS, although an invite is needed to get the game, as well as iOS 11 or newer. Even with these restrictions, the app is now somehow the number one app on Apple's Top Charts in the Free Apps category.
It could be the first invite-only game to not only crack the Top Charts for the gaming category on the iOS App Store, but it might also be the first one to grab the top spot as well, as Gamespot noted. This rank is made all the more impressive given that "Fortnite" not only requires an invitation from a friend or from Epic Games as of this time, it also only works on the latest iOS version, too.
"Fortnite" for the iOS, in this "Invite Event" version, weighs a good 2 GB for the download itself. What's more is that the game will also only work on newer Apple devices, which could be anything from an iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 4, the 2017 iPad, or anything newer aside from those, as 9 to 5 Mac listed out.
"Fortnite Battle Royale is coming to mobile devices! On phones and tablets, Fortnite is the same 100-player game you know from PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac. Same gameplay, same map, same content, same weekly updates," the app description on the App Store read.
Epic Games has started giving out invites on Friday, March 16, and fans can sign up for a chance to get an email invite as well via the "Fortnite" mobile sign-up website.
"New invites will roll out as the servers can handle more players. Thanks for your patience!" Epic Games noted, adding that the "Fortnite" team is expecting to roll out an Android version in the next few months.
