Free Comic Book Day 2016: 50 Freebie Titles Up For Grabs

201'6 Free Comic Book Day is on May 7, and as with the Free Comic Book Days in the previous years, comic book fans are in for a treat this year with 50 great titles of comic books. According to the official site of the celebration, the selection of 50 titles includes thirty-eight Silver Sponsors books and 12 Gold Sponsor Comics.

The Silver Sponsors lists include "The Pink Panther," "Strawberry Shortcake," "Grumpy Cat," "Sanjay and Craig," "Assassin's Creed," "Spongebob," "March" as well as "Captain America," "Attack on Titan" and DC Comics Silver Edition. The Gold Sponsors list includes "Archie," DC Comics Gold Book, "The Avengers" and "Doctor Who." These free comic books will be available in participating comic book shops all over the world.

"An incredible selection of Silver comics for fans for Free Comic Book Day this year, and we couldn't think of a better way to celebrate our 15th anniversary of the event that with such a diverse range of titles for readers of all ages," said FCBD's Marketing Director, Dan Manser.

To find out which retail stores are participating in the event, the website also has a shop locator service which helps comic book fans find the nearest retailer they can go to for their free comic books. This is the 15th year of Free Comic Book Day, which started in 2002 with the help of comic book publishers and retailers.

According to a report in A.V. Club, both big comic publishing houses Marvel and DC are giving away copies of their popular franchises. Marvel is giving away "Avengers" and "Captain America," while DC Comics has a Silver Comic Book edition and a Gold Comic Book edition, while at the same time promoting the studio's next "Suicide Squad" movie.

Another report in Tech Times, classic titles are also included in the free list such as "Dark Horse Serenity" is being released with "Hellboy" and "Aliens" in one comic book. The Tech Times report also highlighted other interesting titles such as "Attack on Titan" and "One-Punch Man.
