History behind National Frozen Custard Day
Each year, August 8 is celebrated as National Frozen Custard Day. This frozen treat was invented by Archie and Elton Kohr in Coney Island, New York in 1919. The brothers added egg yolks to cream and sugar to create that frozen smooth texture that frozen custard is known for.
The brothers' frozen dessert was so successful that they sold more than 18,000 cones in a week. It was at the 1933 World's Fair when frozen custard was introduced to a larger audience.
