David Schwimmer to Be Robert Kardashian in New FX TV Series

David Schwimmer has been tapped to play the late Robert Kardashian, the lawyer father of reality star Kim Kardashian, in the upcoming "American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson."

"Friends" alum Schwimmer has been cast in the role of Kardashian in the show. The series will follow the murder trial of the late lawyer and his defense of football star OJ Simpson, who is also Kardashian's longtime friend.

It will be told from the point of view of the lawyers involved in the case. It will also reportedly show a behind the scenes look at how the prosecution and defense handled the case, leading to reasonable doubt on the part of the jury that led to Simpson being acquitted of the crime.

The FX television mini-series will have ten episodes and is based on the bestselling book "The Run of His Life: The People v. OJ Simpson" written by Jeffrey Toobin. It will be produced by Ryan Murphy, known for his other shows "American Horror Story" and "Glee," and will begin filming early next year in Los Angeles.

Ryan Murphy talked to Hollywood Reporter in October about his upcoming miniseries. "This is an exciting project for me," he said. "The OJ case was as tragic as it was fascinating. It seemed like everyone had a stake in the outcome. It was really the beginning of the modern tabloid age."

Aside from Schwimmer, Cuba Gooding Jr. will also take part in the show as Simpson, with the role of lead prosecutor Marcia Clark going to Sarah Paulson. Simpson's team of lawyers will be reportedly portrayed by F Lee Bailey, Johnnie Cochran, Alan Dershowitz and Robert Shapiro, though none have been officially confirmed as of yet.

"American Crime Story: The People v. O Simpson" is expected to hit the screens sometime in 2016.
