'Frozen' Movie News: Frozen TV Special To Air Late 2017; Movie Sequel To Feature The Other Side Of Elsa

Disney is definitely not "letting it go" as it has announced that Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and other "Frozen" characters are set to return, at least on the small screen, soon. The TV special is slated to hit the TV screens just in time for the 2017 holiday season.

According to TV Guide, the piece of good news about the still untitled Frozen TV special was announced by Disney via a press release.

The TV special will still have Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad onboard as they will lend their voices anew to Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf, respectively. Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton will helm the special, which will be produced by Roy Conli.

The news that left "Frozen" fans wanting to time-travel to the 2017 Christmas season came almost at the same time that Disney Theatrical Productions' announced that the "Frozen" movie is going to have a Broadway adaptation too.

However, the announcement was only a sort of a re-confirmation as Disney CEO Bob Iger already made it public in 2014 that the hit movie will have its own Broadway version like those of other Disney hits, such as Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Newsies and Aladdin.

The stage-play adaptation will feature the musical creations of Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who were also responsible for the "Frozen" movie song "Let It Go" that has charmed both young and adult audiences worldwide.

"Frozen" is scheduled to hit the Broadway stage in 2018.

Meanwhile, the "Frozen" movie that spun all the follow-up versions to it still holds the biggest box-office records for an animated film. Box Office Mojo reported that the movie raked in a whopping $1,276,480,335 as its worldwide gross.

On the other hand, "Frozen 2" the movie has been announced early last year but there are still no definite updates on it. According to a previous Fandango article, "Frozen" co-director Chris Buck hinted that what the viewers can look forward to in the movie sequel is a look at Elsa's other side.

"She had such a dramatic journey, and at the end she's just starting to feel like she can open up and have some fun again. That's what was really good about the short -- we could have fun with Elsa. And that personality... you will see in the next one," he said.
