Gal Gadot News, Update: Star Talks Retcon of 'Wonder Woman' After 'Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice'
Gal Gadot recently talked about "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice" and how the arc of Wonder Woman in the film clashed with her story in the solo film.
Fans will remember that in the debut of Diana Prince in the movie, she told Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) that she has turned her back on mankind a century ago when he recruited her for help.
However, come her solo film, Wonder Woman declared that it is her mission to fight with them and come to their aid, which is basically a complete turnaround and renders her perspective in "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice" illogical.
In line with this, changes had to be made for the solo film so as to accurately embody Wonder Woman as a character. As Gadot explained via Screen Rant during the first leg of the "Justice League" promotional tour:
None of us knew exactly, exactly, the backstory of Wonder Woman. And once they decided to shoot the solo movie for Wonder Woman and we started to dig in to understand the core of this character, we realized that, actually, there is no way that Wonder Woman will ever give up on mankind.
The character was ultimately retconned in her solo film, which went on to become the highest-grossing film helmed by a female director (Patty Jenkins) and the largest opening for a female-led comic book film among many other achievements:
The reason why she left the island was because she wanted to make their lives better and safer. They are her calling. So, I'm giving you a very honest answer, but it was — sometimes in a creative process, you establish something that is not necessarily the right decision, but then you can always correct it and change it. So Wonder Woman will always be there, as far as she's concerned, for mankind.
Fans will see Wonder Woman in action once again in "Justice League" releasing Nov. 16.
