Galaxy Nexus Release Date: Samsung Smartphone Launched in UK; First Look (VIDEO)

The long-awaited new Samsung Galaxy Nexus has finally hit stores in the United Kingdom, but only in the case of one major retailer, Phones4U, reports say.

The mobile store chain is the first one to be stocking the new, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operated smartphone, TechRadar UK reported. The store opened its door at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Galaxy Nexus comes with a £41 ($65) and up monthly plan with a free handset. Phones4U is also reportedly offering a £250 ($394) voucher for the first 100 purchases for movies and music.

The new device features the brand new Android platform with a redesigned user interface, which is to allow  better multitasking and more attractive visuals, according to Samsung.

The phone features a 4.65-inch HD Super Amoled Touchscreen with a 720-pixel resolution. The large vivid display is supposed to make viewing videos and playing games easier and more pleasant. Galaxy Nexus also features a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU processor which reportedly makes the handset speedier. It works with HSPA+ that allows high speed web browsing, Samsung said.

Another exciting feature is the 5 megapixel low light optimized camera which records video at 1080-pixel and introduces a new time lapse video mode. In addition to that camera in the back, the Galaxy Nexus also features a front facing 1.3 Megapixel camera allowing video chatting.

The launch of the phone by other networks has been delayed.

Samsung has reportedly warned customers of a delay to stock saying, "For anyone who pre-ordered Galaxy Nexus y'day, due to stock delays your delivery has changed to 22/11. We'll call you by 8pm with more info."

Three UK carriers, one of the major mobile networks in Britain, tweeted Tuesday: "If you order online, delivery 22nd. Retail should have stock on the 18th but we cannot 100% confirm this yet."

The Galaxy Nexus is not an American made phone, so international releases before a U.S. release are commonplace. The U.S. launch is expected in early 2012, reportedly on Verizon’s 4G LTE network.
