Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3, JellyBean Update Now Available

Samsung began rolling out the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3, JellyBean update this week.

The long awaited firmware is now available for both international and LTE versions of the device. This is the first major software upgrade for the phablet as it launched with Android 4.1.2, back in Oct. 2012 and has come with it ever since.

Android 4.3 brings a slew of changes to the device including support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, Samsung Knox security suite, Samsung wallet payment app, support for TRIM command, better RAM management, a new theme, lockscreen, screen modes, Daydream, driving mode, actionable notifications, and the ability to move apps to the SD card.

No changes to the S Pen have been reported as of yet. The update seems to be stable and bug free, according to Android Authority. Samsung has issues with this same upgrade on the Galaxy S3 and S4.

Unbranded versions are expected to receive it first with carrier models to follow.

Android 4.4 KitKat has already been made available for the Galaxy Note 2 with a new firmware that can be accessed through OmniROM.

The AT&T Galaxy Note 2, T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2, the GT-N7100 and the GT-N7105 are the versions that are compatible with this new software.

Instructions on how to access the Android 4.4 KitKat ROM for the device could be found in the XDA-developers forum. Unofficial ROMS should be downloaded and installed with caution as they void warrantees on devices and erase memory. All data on the Notes should be backed up before owners start taking steps to install the software.

This latest ROM should be followed by many more as various developers such as ParanoidAndroid and CyanogenMod have already confirmed that they are working on their own versions set to be rolled out soon.
