Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Now Available Through OmniROM

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is now available in the form of a new ROM offered by a prominent online developer.

OmniROM, the site that created the new build, recently rolled out the update for last year's Samsung flagship and promises that it is "highly functional." The current build is a test version, but users are welcome to try it out if they own a Galaxy S3 I9300 model.

This new ROM benefits those struggling with the bug ridden Android 4.3 update that rolled out recently. Various Galaxy S3 owners reported problems with the software complaining about performance and battery issues seen after it was installed. The KitKat-based OmniROM will bring them up to date with the latest software.

There is also a new KitKat version for the Nexus 5 with CyanogenMod 11. Even though the handset comes equipped with an official build of the software, users will still be able to use this ROM for a slightly different experience.

As with all of these custom builds, users should take caution before installing them by backing up their devices so as not to lose files.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 was released in the spring of last year and helped Samsung solidify its place in the high-end smartphone industry. Despite the fact that it is an older device, Google will still roll out a version of KitKat for it as the new software is designed to run on smartphones with less up to date specs.

The Nexus 5 launched earlier this month and is the successor to the wildly popular Nexus 4. It runs a pure form of Android 4.4 KitKat and can be purchased through the Google Play store automatically unlocked.
