Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition Spotted in Bluetooth SIG, Release Date Coming Soon?

A device that could be the Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition was recently spotted clearing the Bluetooth SIG's certification.

The model number was SM-G900FG. It is the same number used for the carrier based Galaxy S5, except it has a G at the end. The Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition also featured a G at the end of the number for the carrier models.

Another hint at the GS5 GPe's existence came when the S5 replaced a photo of the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition in the Play Store recently. However, it was eventually changed back. Samsung and HTC released GPe versions of their flagships last year, and with the latter already dropping a pure Android M8 in 2014, in only makes sense for Samsung to keep with the same pattern.

The release date for the Galaxy S5 Active on AT&T could be announced in the near future as the device was spotted on the GFXBench website recently.

The listing revealed information on the handset that included the specifications. The device will feature a 5.2-inch Full HD display which will most likely be AMOLED. This makes the screen slightly bigger than the version found on the Galaxy S5.

It also comes with a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory a 2 megapixel front camera and Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The rear camera is 16 megapixels and takes pictures with a resolution of 5312x2988.

Most features are almost identical to those found on the original Galaxy S5 model. The main difference appears to be the dimensions as the Active measures in at 143x73.42 mm wide in comparison to the original which is 142x72.5.

The Galaxy S5 was released earlier this year and has already become one of Samsung's all time highest selling devices.
