Galaxy S5 Release Date Set for March, Launch Confirmed by Samsung Exec

The Samsung Galaxy S5 release date is set for mid-March, according to a new report.

One of Samsung's executives confirmed that the company's new flagship smartphone will go on sale in three weeks' time. Samsung will unveil the device at this year's Mobile World Congress on Feb. 24. The handset will be available about two weeks after that.

The Galaxy S5 will feature a 16-megapixel rear shooter that will capture pictures in different sizes from 2.4-megapixels to 16, according to a new report from Sam Mobile. The camera will be able to choose between different ISO levels from ISO100 to ISO800. It will also be able to shoot 4K resolution video at 30fps and will capture footage in 1080p at a full 60fps.

It is expected feature innovative technology known as "side touch" which replaces the physical camera button. The company will use a small sensor at the bottom right of the handset which will be activated with a simple tap. However, it will not be compatible with portrait mode, easy mode or when recording video.

The Galaxy S5 camera will also feature a variety of shooting modes including 3D Tour Shot, Sports, Focus Select, Dual Camera, Aqua, Animated Photo, 3D Panorama, Sound and Shot, Drama, Golf, Auto Portrait, Rich Tone, Auto, Eraser, Night, Best Face, Best Photo, Continues Shot and Panorama.

There will also be new camera effects available that will add a little extra style to pictures. Custom effects will be available via download. Some of these effects for the Galaxy S5 camera include Grey-scale, Sepia, Negative, Emboss, Outline, Watercolour, Monochrome, Sketch, Washed Out, Posterise, Solarise, Vintage, Cold Vintage, Warm Vintage, Blue, Green Point, Red/Yellow, Nostalgia, Faded Colour, Retro, Sunshine, Old Photo, Cartoon, Oil Pastel, Moody, Engraving, Vignette, Rugged, Tint, Turquoise, Fisheye, Noir Note and Vincent.

The device's camera app will have a new appearance that will match the S5's color scheme more closely.
