Galaxy S7 Rumors: Samsung to Unveil Next Flagship Smartphone in January

Samsung will reportedly unveil the Galaxy S7 smartphone in the beginning of 2016, the latest rumors say.

Ahead of the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy S7, the South Korean tech giant had already revealed that the device will feature a new camera sensor. Now, the latest rumors say the company will announce its next flagship device in January 2016, according to Realty Today.

Samsung usually announces Galaxy devices at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), which takes place in late February. The MWC 2016 will be held between Feb. 22 and Feb. 25 in Barcelona, Spain. But for the Galaxy S7, rumors say the tech giant will veer away from the MWC launch and announce the smartphone a month earlier in a separate event, Android Pit reports.

There are many things that the public expects Samsung's next flagship phone to have. One of them is a departure from the usual "blocky" design, said TechRadar. The Galaxy S7 is also expected to come with a better display for sharper images. Moreover, Samsung can veer away from the rising popularity of fingerprint scanners and start something new, like an iris scanning feature, the report relays.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 will boast of a screen with edges pushed to the sides. Plus, the device will have speakers with omni sound technology on both the top and bottom sides. To make the device lighter, more durable, and prevent frequent overheating, the S7's build will be made of magnesium-based alloy, the report details.

Other expected specs and features for the Galaxy S7 are 3D Touch technology, Turtle Glass protection, and foldable body. Rumor has it that the device will have 5.2-inch and 5.8-inch variants, but Samsung still has not confirmed this.

While there is still no confirmed exact release date for the Galaxy S7, there are rumors suggesting Samsung would unveil the flagship phone anytime between Jan. 19 and early Feb. 2016. More details on the device are expected to come out in the coming weeks.
