Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 Vs. Xperia Z2 Tablet: Spec by Spec Comparison

The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet was released earlier this year and the Galaxy Tab 4 is expected to debut sometime in the near future.

Both devices represent the next generation of slates and feature more impressive specs than their predecessors. Sony has been working to gain prominence in the American market while Samsung has been dominating that arena for quite some time. However, one of the company's least popular products is the Galaxy Tab, as it is always outshined by the iPad or Nexus devices. Sony might have what it takes to blow past Samsung in this area and with the leaked specs for the Tab 4; we can now compare the 10.1 inch models to each other.

The Sony Xperia Z2 comes with a 10.1-inch TFT display with 1920 x 1200 resolution at 224 ppi. The Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 will pack a screen that is the same size but will most likely be Super AMOLED. It is unclear what the resolution will be, but it will have to be close to Sony's to compete in the market. The Xperia Z2 also features multi-touch for up to 10 fingers and has shatter and scratch-proof glass. This is probably another advantage the Z2 will have over the Tab 4.

Processor

The Xperia Z2 comes with a quad-core 2.3 GHz processor while the Galaxy Tab 4 is said to feature a 1.2GHz quad-core chip. The power on the Galaxy Tab is significantly lower than Sony's device. The Z2 packs 3GB of RAM while the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 will come with just 1.5GB. For some reason Samsung seems to be pulling back in terms of power. However, the Tab 4's specs are not fully confirmed, so hopefully these numbers will change before the actual release.

Camera

The Galaxy Tab 4 is rumored to feature an 8-megapixel camera in the back with a 3-megapixel camera in the front. The Xperia Z2 comes with an 8.1-megapixel shooter in the front with a 2.2-megapixel version in the back. There is a slight difference here as the numbers are pretty close. The lens and photography software will determine which one is better in the long run, but for now it's safe to say that both companies are even.

Conclusion

It's pretty early to call this one, but based on the leaked specs, Sony's device will probably be the faster of the two while Samsung will get some other areas right. The Xperia Z2 seems to be more higher-end while the Galaxy Tab 4 seems to follow in the footsteps of its predecessors with more mid-range features.
