'Gambit' Latest News: Possible Filming Date Revealed
"Gambit" is a movie many fans were looking forward to when it was announced to debut on the big screen in November 2016 with Channing Tatum in the lead role. Production never began and months have already passed since its targeted release date, making many worry if the movie will ever see the light of day. However, "X-Men" producer Simon Kinberg recently shared an exciting update about the forthcoming movie.
Filming of "Gambit" was previously scheduled to begin last year, and then was moved to spring 2017. The superhero film has continuously been delayed over script issues, the loss of two directors and Tatum's busy schedule. At present, the movie has a new possible filming date – sometime in the beginning of 2018.
"It's in active development," Kinberg said, according to Comicbook. "It's a movie that we hope will be ready to go by the end of this year and shoot next year," he added.

"We have two or three X-Men related movies this year so it can wait for a moment," he continued. "We know that when we get those right, the movie succeeds so we want to make sure we get Gambit right because we want him to be the beginning of a whole new franchise," he added.
According to Cinema Blend, the 2018 filming date is encouraging news considering that "Gambit" has lured and lost numerous high-profile directors. Although Tatum remains committed to be the leading man of the upcoming movie, the film currently has no director.
Among the many directors that have been previously attached to the "Gambit" standalone movie include Doug Liman of "Edge of Tomorrow," Rupert Wyatt of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," JC Chandor of "Margin Call" and Gareth Evans of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."
Since it missed its November 2016 premiere date, "Gambit" has no new release date yet. For now, filming is expected to commence sometime in 2018.
