'Gambit' News: Tatum Eyes Liman as New Director

With the upcoming FOX film "Gambit" still lacking a director, it was reported that a certain director could be taking on the role.

Previous reports revealed that the original director of the film, Rupert Wyatt, had left the film. Since then, there has been no news on who exactly will replace him. With shooting planned for early next year, the team has been reportedly working hard to find someone to continue the production.

With that, it was reported that actor Channing Tatum, who will be taking on the lead role of Gambit, has been trying to get Doug Liman to direct the film. Liman is well-known for action films such as "The Bourne Identity" and "Edge of Tomorrow."

While Liman is known to produce successful films, his involvement could present more expenses for the film. The past movies he has worked on reveal that he has a habit of going over budget and schedule, which was seen on the film "The Bourne Identity." There was even an incident while filming "Jumper" that required replacement for the lead actor.

The story of "Gambit" is based on the comic book written by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee. The character is based in New Orleans, acting as a mutant who can manipulate kinetic energy. Gambit is most known for his love affair with Rogue. With that, fans are hoping that this relationship will be explored in the upcoming movie.

However, Anna Paquin, who plays the role of Rogue in the "X-Men" installments, confirmed that she will not be involved in the upcoming film. On the other hand, Channing Tatum will be joined by another female actress Leah Seydoux.

While there has yet to be an official release date for the film, it was reported that "Gambit" will premiere in theaters by 2017.
