'Gambit' Release Date, Cast News: Daniel Craig to Terrorize Channing Tatum?

Will Daniel Craig join the X-men spinoff movie "Gambit" with Channing Tatum? Rumors surfaced that the James Bond star is in talks to plain the villain Nathaniel Essex/Mr. Sinister.

Sources told Splash Report that Craig is having conversations about playing the part but a deal has not yet been made. The studio apparently wants someone intelligent and intimidating and Craig fits the role perfectly.

Nathaniel Essex/Mr. Sinister is a biologist from Essex who is obsessed with Charles Darwin's theories. His powers as a genetically-altered human include telepathy, telekinesis, shape-shifting, and regeneration.

In the "X-Men" comic book series, Mr. Sinister blackmailed Gambit (Tatum) to kidnap Cyclops' children. Mr. Sinister messed up Gambit's mind when he told him how he became a mutant.

FOX hinted that Mr. Sinister will be coming to the X-Men franchise during the end credits of "X-Men: Apocalypse," which ran in theaters in 2016. If Craig agrees to the role, then he and Tatum will be reunited following their recent heist movie "Logan Lucky."

But The Wrap entertainment journalist Umberto Gonzalez belied the rumors that Craig will be joining Tatum in "Gambit." He posted on Twitter that there was no truth to the report.

The production of "Gambit" has also taken many delays following several changes behind the scenes. For now, the studio is still searching for a director and other casting announcements have not been made.

"Gambit" is being touted as inspired by "Ocean's 11," which will highlight the X-Men character's background. Gambit's alter ego is Remy Lebeau, who is the leader of the Thieves Guild.

"Gambit" is expected to feature several other X-Men characters that viewers have yet to see on the big screen. Unconfirmed details alleged that the characters of Rictor, Dany Moonstar, Fifolet and Multiple Man from the comic series are in the movie's script.

FOX doesn't have the theater release date for "Gambit" for now since pre-production has not started.
