'Game of Thrones' News, Update: "A Song of Ice and Fire" Author Just Spilled One Major Character Spoiler
Fans of the hit HBO TV series "Game of Thrones" will have to wait until next year to (hopefully) find out the answers to the questions left in Season 5. But George R.R. Martin, the author of the book series that the show is heavily based from, just spilled the fate of one major character.
Here's what we heard.
Citing the updates from his LiveJournal entry on Wednesday, a report from Screen Rant said that despite the assumption that King Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) is dead, the monarch, as it turns out, is still alive.

"In my books? Alive, beyond a doubt," Martin answered one of the queries in his blog site.
For those who missed, the Season 5 finale episode "Mother's Mercy" revealed that Stannis was heavily defeated by the Boltons. As he rested against a tree, Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) arrived to confront him for the death of her first master, King Renly (Gethin Anthony).
The scene showed the lady knight drawing her sword and swinging it towards the wounded warrior king. Then it cut off to black and fans were quick to presume that Stannis is finished off.
David Nutter, the director who helmed the episode, previously confirmed to Entertainment Weekly (via SR) that Stannis is really gone.
"From the very beginning, and [through] the script process, that was the intent — he's dead," Nutter said (via SR). He added that showing further his death would have felt "gratuitous."
This wouldn't be the first time that creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have diverted from the source material. In the last season alone, there were about a number of differences including the horrific death of Stannis' daughter, Shireen, as well as the most talked about demise of Kit Harrington's Jon Snow. The latter was claimed by the show to have also died. His fate in the books, however, has yet to be discovered.
