'Game Of Thrones' News, Update: Show Creators Looking Into Possibility of Shortened Seasons

HBO's multi Emmy Award-winning high fantasy drama hit TV series, "Game of Thrones," is yet to kick off the premiere of its highly anticipated Season 6 and fans better be wary with the fact that this could be the last installment that will be comprised of double-digit episode count.

In an interview, series executives David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed to Variety that the twisted tales from the world of Westeros will soon come to an end as they are now ready to wrap up the show with 13 more episodes.

"I think we're down to our final 13 episodes after this season. We're heading into the final lap," Benioff told the media outlet. "That's the guess, though nothing is yet set in stone, but that's what we're looking at."

As revealed, the remaining segments will then be divided to two seasons: seven for Season 7 and six for Season 8.

Variety, however, cited their sources indicating that the given numbers are still up in the air since production for the next installment won't commence until the middle of the year. This means that there's still time for some adjustments to be made.

In a statement released by HBO's entertainment president Michael Lombardo to Entertainment Weekly, he said that the cabler is yet to give their piece on the issue.

"In every conversation, that's been [the showrunners'] thinking," he said. "It will be interesting to see how strongly they feel about being definitive about that when we are in a position to announce seasons 7 and 8."

HBO, as further explained by Lombardo, is yet to sit with the two aforementioned showrunners "to discuss the details once a decision has been made to go forward with season 7."

Back to Variety, the HBO official however said that he's always been "an optimist" about the show and that it is his desire that the parties involved would be able to "figure" out the necessary steps to be taken.

"Game of Thrones" Season 6 premieres this Sunday, April 24, on HBO.
