'Game of Thrones' Season 6 News, Spoilers: Bran Has to Save Westeros, Star Says; Syrio Forel Is Alive?
Following a two-year absence from HBO's "Game of Thrones," actor Isaac Hempstead-Wright, who plays the greenseer Bran Stark, returns to the popular fantasy drama series this Sunday. And this time, Bran will emerge as a powerful character who may just be one of the key players in the fictional world of Westeros.
In the sixth season of "Game of Thrones," Bran, having been mentored by the Three-Eyed Raven (Max von Sydow), will begin using his greenseeing powers to look into the past, the present, and the future of Westeros and beyond. His visions will allow fans to see scenes from previous seasons and even those from much, much earlier, such as the much-anticipated battle at the Tower of Joy.
Hempstead-Wright spoke to Entertainment Weekly and said that season 6 is definitely Bran's best season yet.
"His first two seasons he was reacting to other people's storylines," the actor explained, "then he started to get his own thing with his dreaming and journeying north."
"But we weren't sure what was going on. Now we've learned his storyline is pretty damn important," he added. "Now he's realized he's been having his dreams because he's got to save Westeros. It's such a cool storyline now."
The "Game of Thrones" star also talked about what to expect from Bran's visions. "Bran is pretty damn close to being the Three-Eyed Raven now," he said. "He's now discovering how crucial he could be in the Great War."
Meanwhile, a scene from the season 6 premiere of "Game of Thrones" has refuelled the popular fan theory that Syrio Forel (Miltos Yerolemou), Arya Stark's (Maisie Williams) swordfighting instructor back in season 1, may still be alive.
In the season 6 opener, a blinded Arya was challenged to a fight by the Waif (Faye Marsay), and ended up getting quite a beating. One Reddit user was quick to notice that in a scene from the fight, the Waif twirled her wooden staffs in almost the exact same way that Syrio moved his wooden swords during his "dancing lessons" with Arya.
Could Syrio have survived his encounter with the Lannister men in season 1? Is he, then, a Faceless Man? And is he currently disguised as the Waif?
"Game of Thrones" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
