Game of Thrones Season 6 Premiere Recap: The Real Melisandre
Just like all the previous season openers, Season 6 of HBO's critically-acclaimed TV drama, Game of Thrones once again handed out a shocker. The episode called "The Red Woman" was indeed about the only red woman in the series – Lady Melisandre, who apparently has some dirty little secret in her.
In the final scene of the season's first episode, Melisandre was revealed to be hiding her true appearance and self. The revelation is that she's a very old woman who has been in disguise all along. Just imagine how Stannis Baratheon would feel if he's alive and able to recall their sexual adventures together.
Jon Snow is Dead, For Now
Episode 1 also ended months of speculation about Jon Snow's fate after he was stabbed to death by his own men. By the looks of it, he's certainly dead, but will he rise again? As far as the trend goes, the series seems to be showing more magic stuff, which means that there is still a slim chance that Snow might be revived or whatever term seems fit, by Melisandre.
Revenge
Cersei on the other hand is once again grieving, this time over the death of her daughter Myrcella. She discloses to Jaime a prophecy that may have sealed her fate as a mother, but her brother and lover does not fail to encourage her, saying that they can beat everyone else when they're together. This is shaping to be a pretty bad revenge in the process.
Meanwhile, the Martells, Doran and Tristane are the first major casualties for this season, except for Jon Snow of course. The culprit is Ellaria Sand and the awfully lovely daughters. This is another unexpected twist as war is expected to happen.
Finally, Sansa and Theon finally make a successful escape at the hands of Ramsay Bolton, but not before almost getting caught again by his men. Thanks to the timely intervention of Brienne of Tarth and Podrick Payne, it's pretty comforting to see that at least one Stark survived.
