Ed Sheeran Talks About His Character's Fate in 'Game of Thrones' Season 7

Irish singer Ed Sheeran revealed that his character in "Game of Thrones" season 7 will not die. News about his cameo in the hit HBO fantasy series first emerged last month. Recently, he dropped more interesting details about his role on the show.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Sheeran revealed that he was not yet sure what role he is going to play. However, he was certain that he would only appear for about five minutes and that he would not die.

After revealing the fate of his character in the show, he quipped, "I'd probably prefer to have sex than die in the show. I'm sure a lot of people are into that but I'm not."

Sheeran also revealed that it was Snow Patrol front man Gary Lightbody who paved the way for him to land a role on the show. Lightbody, who is a friend of the singer, previously made a guest appearance on "Game of Thrones."

"My friend guested in it in 2012 and I remember I was on tour with him and he was like: 'Right, I've got a guest slot on 'Game of Thrones.' I remember saying, 'You got to get me on it at some point.' It's been five years so it's finally come true," he said.

The popular singer previously revealed that he had played his new music for the cast of "Game of Thrones."

At a South by Southwest (SXSW) film panel held in March, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss confirmed that Sheeran would appear in season 7 to please cast member Maisie Williams, who happens to be his avid fan. Benioff explained that they had tried to get Sheeran on the show for years to surprise Williams, but it was only this year that they finally did it.

"Game of Thrones" season 7 premieres on July 16 on HBO.
