'Game of Thrones' Update: 'Battle of the Bastards' Director Miguel Sapochnik Returns to Direct

The final six episodes of "Game of Thrones" are just around the corner, and new reports confirm that one of its most admired directors is set to be back for the show's final run. Director Miguel Sapochnik, who directed two of the most critically-acclaimed episodes of the series, "Hardhome" and "Battle of the Bastards," will be back to helm the final parts after being absent last season.

Right now, details about "Game of Thrones" season 8 are still scarce. However, fans believe that season 7 was pretty good at offering plenty of hints about what is yet to come when the series returns for its eighth and final chapter.

Some of the most awaited moments in season 8 include the exploration of Jon Snow's birthright, as well as the continuation of the White Walkers and their army's expedition towards the south. Fans also expect the upcoming season to feature Cersei's partnership with the Golden Company. Several days ago, it was confirmed that as these events unfold next season, the series will also bring back Sapochnik to direct its final cycle.

"Game of Thrones" cinematographer Fabian Wagner recently broke the news on Instagram when he uploaded a throwback photo of him with the team behind the "Battle of the Bastards" episode.

"Back on Game of Thrones for prep of the final season and the team is back together. Good times even though winter is already here," he wrote in the caption.

Besides Sapochnik and Wagner, also in the photo were VFX supervisor Joe Bauer and producer Steve Kullback, as well as crew member Caroline Alderson.

It has yet to be confirmed which of the six final episodes Sapochnik will direct, but there are speculations that he will direct just one since each of the episodes of the final season are expected to be film-length.

There is no announcement yet as to when "Game of Thrones" will return for its eighth season.
